Creating different User Groups
I was just curious what the timing might be like for the backend user groups?
I know Oliver has stated the frontend implementation will come first, but I was curious how far progress has been made on backend user permissions.
I like the idea that normal users can only edit what they have created, but I too would also like the ability to limit where they can post on the site and who can switch visible/hidden and published/unpublished status.
Is this the kind of backend user permission system that is planned.
thanks,
Eric Maynard

user groups
I curiously read this thread.
I wonder if there has been progress in implementing the specific user groups.
For me the main idea would be to also be able to create groups, that limit the access to the content in the frontend.
Sth. like this:
Guest (not logged in) can see only a tiny part of the menu)
Normal user can view most of the content
Special user 1 ...
Special user 2 ...
By the way, thanx for that great work Oliver!!!
Its the best seen so far!

Re: Creating different User Groups
The idea of groups on the admin side certainly appeals to me.
Recently, a 'normal' user employed by one of my clients went on holiday and my client wanted to be able to edit their articles (they had published something incorrectly). To resolve the issue I had to give admin status to another 'ordinary' user, something I would prefer not to do, simply because it gives them too much power.
IMHO An 'Editors' group might be nice, e.g.
Administrators
Editors (no access to templates or CSS, but can change ANY article)
Normal Users
This would be great for web designers like myself who offer PHPWCMS as a hosted service.
I can be the adminstrator and control the site design.
My client can be an 'editor' and change anything on the site - except messing with the CSS or templates.
My client's employees can post articles as 'normal' users.
Definitely on my wish-list

Re: Creating different User Groups
Grouping still does not exist. For "editors only" you should use "BE only" but not "admin".Peekay wrote:...An 'Editors' group ...

No idiot, wouldn't say so. Never give up the hope although it sounds stupid.

No, I'll never give up

It's mostly all about maintaining two or three customer's sites Still supporter for the band Mykket Morton. Visit Mykket Morton on FB. Listen Mykket Morton and live videos on youtube.
Now building a venue for young artists to get wet on stage, rehearsal rooms, a studio, a guitar shop - yes I'm going to build some guitars.
