UPDATED: Kids Top 20 (CSS & Flash)

Post by cyppher.nl »

Hi All,

Just a glance: http://ctmweb.nl.server1.firstfind.nl/kidstop20.nl/

Layout in CSS, tested in IE6 en FF. I'd like it to be tested in IE < 5 and other browsers (Safari, anyone?).

This site is for dutch kids (aged 6-12 yrs) representing the wellknown tv show (Kids Top 20) where kids can vote for their 5 favourite tunes.
(actually it's a redesign and functional update for http://www.kidstop20.nl )

I'm also planning to write a voting system, but I was wondering, maybe it is already available somewhere (and used by other wcms'ers)?

Please give me all your feedback, thanks!!

Some comments

background image is too dominating.
menu on the left is good, you can use the reptag called
--...--/index.php/topic,59.0.html
to bulid the menu, and it will work like a charm...

if you have an update let us know

Thanks for having a view!

I'm trying to use the reptag {NAV_LIST_ALL} however I can't get it working...

EDIT:
RepTag seems to work now. Next step is to add the nice CSS styles for the menu. Actually, I think the generated code is not completely what I had in mind.
Each menu-item must have its own background and rollover image. If anyone knows how to rewrite the code, please let me know.
I think I'm looking for list-based CSS menu, as seen on http://www.belegger.nl (which I designed a few months ago)

Updated:
- background-img is lighter and less dominating
- Menu is CSS based, however I can't get the replacement tag (nav_list_all) getting the right output (each img and hover img must have unique CSS-class)
- Menu is flickering in IE, although I used the correct code to avoid that...

Next steps: improving the Flash banner by giving the logo more attention...

Suggestions always welcome

Kids Top 20 - website for kids aged 6-12 yrs.
After the summer they can vote for their 20 most favourite pop tracks. Every week on sunday the Chart is published in the Kids Top 20 - TV Show.

Most kids will be visiting the site in the summer and want to play an online game (provided by Jetix, a dutch broadcasting station)

I've updated the Draft version.

My deadline is this Friday...

CSS layout (even the menu is now CSS rollover)
in Firefox the GT DIV won't appear correctly... I know.. I'll try to correct that..

Please give me all your opinions ( , :? , :( ) so I can make it better again.
THANKS!

I actually don't like your typo? you might use verdana or smth. else and make it a little larger. Maybe you could make a nearly transparent background behind the text to improve the contrast.

fill out all your content with a 1 px nearly transparent dark grey gif file.

It might be hard to realise on your site, but in my opinion you need to do something about the typo. Try touse Verdana, Arial or whatever...

Hi cyppher,

AUB --> kan je de titel niet beter laten zien? In Flash? Het is echt spijtig, de rest valt wel mee hoor.

The title is really pixelized and that's a pitty, I understand it is for kids and colors are ok (my opinion).
But the title you have to change before tomorrow, it gives your site that little something... less. (looks "amateur")

Change the output of "Kids Top 20" in the head banner (FLASH) and you'll have that little something... MORE!

As for FF, I wouldn't worry if I were you, I doubt kids will use FF as their browser, you'll see 95% of your visitors coming with IE...
Still, it is a css thing... you'll find the solution after, concentrate on the general look and feel for tomorrow (that includes the header!!!)

Cheers

Hi cyppher,

looked again at your site and I still think it's really nice the way you put everything together, pitty the little FF issue, but who cares ;)
It's a non "conventional" site and your design stands out, I think you did a great job.

Thanks!

Next few weeks I will be finetuning the site, because the front-page still looks a bit static and simple.
There will be a forum, the artist-gallery will be replaced by a better one, and withing the next few weeks KidsTop20.FM (Streaming Radio) will be a fact too!

I didn't get to sort out the FF issues, however over 85% of the visitors use IE..
