Oh, and as to who's using anything but Google these days... I'll just shut up and not mention my 30/30/25/10% traffic splits between Google/Yahoo/MSN/Ask Jeeves (but it is nice not to have all your eggs in one basket). ...or recent user feedback showing frustration with Google and user patterns ...

Hey.. they were important enough for you to include in the first place, Oliver.. ;) I'm just suggesting a tidy-up/ramp-up. As to which engines use them - pretty much all of them according to my previous testing in certain circumstances (last was about four months ago - health has put me out of the ...

Ah, ok, I see it now Oliver. Unfortunately it needs to be available on an article level to be really useful. For SEO (search engine optimisation) and marketing purposes each page needs to have a directly relevant description. The description on the structure level is good for the 'homepage' of that ...

As far as I can see so far, phpwcms doesn't create a description tag. It does create the keyword tag though. I assume TAOG's reply refers to the fact that Google does not generally use the description tag, but rather a 'ransom note' of query-relevant text taken from the body of the page, but Google ...

Make your site fit all your users' screens - quick tip

One thing I'm noticing in looking at the 'sites you're proud of' and 'new sites' is that the vast majority of phpwcms designers are using fixed-width page layouts. No doubt they look great on your screen, but trust me, they don't necessarily look so hot to your users where they have a different ...

Nice, but too wide for my screen at 800x600 (still a very common resolution). Did you know you can use percentages instead of fixed pixel widths in your page layouts? Try making your content area 100% - will use 100 percent of the available area after it has fit your fixed width areas in. (just type ...

Thanks Pappnase :)

I went with a reinstall to the root.

Version.. err.. I'd have to look it up, but when I did the test install I checked and it was the current version download on this site.

mysite.com/index.php instead of mysite.com/phpwcms/index.php

Hello. I'm new to phpwcms, and to CMSs in general, but I like the potential of this system and am keen to get it running right, so I hope you can help. phpwcms is offered by my host as a Fantastico automatic install, and I have done a test install and got the basic system working fine, but I want ...
